We love living with very old things, and do our best to find special treasures here in New England. Each one of our tags has this quote on it: "The common denominator among antiquers is a desire to keep objects from perishing~to insist on the indestructability of human values by making the arts of everyday living deathless~"

'MADE IN THE NEW HAMPSHIRE COLONY'~

"ADAM'S TREEN"~ We are proud and pleased to announce that we are selling a limited number of beautiful, hand turned wooden replicas of a 17thc. Dutch hollowcast candlestick! Adam hand-makes each one on a 1930s lathe at the 1784 mill owned by our friend, just down the road from us. The wood came from an old fashioned, one-man saw mill in the country, not 10 minutes from our home. Each one is hand finished by Mary with spanish brown milk paint, sanding, stains, smoke-darkening and wax. Each looks ancient! We love our authentic 17thc. pewter candlesticks of similar design, but wanted the warm look of more primitive wood ones as well in our home! We are delighted to offer our customers our own uniquely individual and painstakingly hand made and 'aged' copies of a rare original form. Because these are made one at a time by hand, each has it's slight variations and wood grain, and flaws. These are signed and dated, and each one is custom made.

$150. each, by pre-paid special order only.

AN ANTIQUE DOG ROPE BED!

This is so charming and unusual for someone who has a cherished pet, and has furnished their home in 'country' antiques! Most dog beds are, well, UGLY, and don't blend into antique decor. This rope bed is sturdy, and has a lovely old patina---NOT shiny. There are no nails in it's construction. It is 29 inches x 23 inches. Buy or make a cushion in the fabric of your choice. $595.

18TH CENTURY GILFORD CT. CHAIR

A wonderful 18thc. Connecticut bannister back ARMCHAIR. From a private collection, this chair has so much going for it. It was made by one specific chairmaker in Guilford, Ct. in the 18th c. It has a heart crestrail, and “Guilford finials”. It has a wonderful original paint history--- it’s only 2 very old paint colors---original green and then black over the inital dull red primer. It has NO later paint, no replacement parts, and no ending out. Little wooden wheels were added very early in it’s history, and bear traces of both the green and black paint. (Perhaps to wheel Grandma around!) There are 4 reeded bannisters, and the stretchers ride low to the floor. The suface is just excellent----dry, dull old patination. The authentic rush seat is an older replacement, and the chair is quite comfortable to sit in. (Note: the red traces on the chair in the photo appear much brighter due to camera flash. In real life, the red traces visible are very understated, and unobtrusive. The surface of this chair really is terrific). $2975.00

c. 1820, 2 -piece Welsh Pewter Dresser. Original finish. Has a more American William & Mary look than most. Locking silverware drawer. Older, mellow reproduction Queen Anne brasses. Great patina---NOT 'shiny'. Two other drawers. Lower shelf. Turned spindles and legs. Scalloped top. Height: 83” Length: 78” Depth/Base: 17 3/4” Top: 6”. This is a very good buy. Most Welsh dressers now are considerably more expensive. $10,500

Worn, old hand-carved treen washboard. $78.

This is a fabulous newell post, completely hand carved about 20 years ago by a friend from black walnut from his own property. It is a wonderful pineapple, the colonial symbol of hospitatlity. It was made extra long to fit in ANY home, new or existing. THERE IS NO FINISH ON IT~IT IS THE ORIGINAL BLACK WALNUT. The mortise hole for the stair rail was NOT cut into it, to allow the stunning post to be custom fit into any staircase in any home. A one of a kind treasure, lovingly made, this would be the conversation piece of anyone’s home. $1200.00

Circa late 18th c. needlework pocket book. Diamond pattern hand stitched in silk on silk. This came from a family in Maine, and it decended down ONLY in that family. Inside is a striped silk drawstring bag that matches the lining of the pocket book. Inside this little bag was an ancient piece of hair woven into lace, on a lacemaker’s pillow, and it is tied with a tiny silk bow. Also inside the pocket book was a little painted ceramic box of 1840 vintage or so. It has a painting of a lady on one side, and the words: “forget me not” on the other, Inside this box was another lock of hair from someone else. All of thses things were kept in this pocket book, and were in it when I aquired it. The condition is good. This is a rare find. $2200.00

This pair of 'silent companions', or 'dummy boards' are hand painted by Adam and Mary. They are our impression of a pair of dummy boards of 17thc. style children that a British artist painted, and that we admired. $895. for the pair.

A wonderful, evocative “silent companions” or “dummy board” to stand in a fireplace opening. This is not ancient---probably 35 years old, but is a charming piece of American folk art, found in Hollis, Maine, featuring 3 tired looking 18th c. patriots. $595.

Early mirrored sconce. Holds a candle---the electric candle just set in there is not included----it is just an idea. $375.
